Gifts for Grandma: Ideas for Dementia Patients

Gift shopping for parents or grandparents who have dementia can be difficult because you really want to give to them a gift that they can enjoy and will use. Here’s a list of some great ideas:

Day Clock

This clearly spells out the time, period of the day, full day of the week, month and date in large, clear letters - with no confusing abbreviations.  It is easy to read from across the room and set-up is a breeze.

Large Print Puzzle Books

Puzzles such as word search, crossword, Sudoku and maze books are always a good idea as a gift for your seniors with early to early-mid stage dementia because they can be fun and rewarding.

Something Warm

It is a good idea to give your loved one something warm such as a blanket, a robe or slippers because older adults often feel the cold more.

Create a Playlist of favorite songs

Music helps everyone, but for people who have dementia, it’s even better because it can often take them back to the past and remember some things that made them happy. Look for a simple music player so they can listen to their favorite music every day.

Easy coloring books

A book with markers or colored pencils will be a great way for your loved ones to spend an enjoyable afternoon.
